How to make your Go-ped Fast
Many people want to make their go-ped fast. But a lot of people don't have the money to do it. I'll try to make it easier to modify your go-ped on a budget. To modify your go-ped for almost nothing just raise the compression and advance the timing. Instructions on how to do this can be found at www.pswsports.com
- Tuning the screw on top of your carb to the right to make it leaner will give you better top speed and MPG, but if you make it all the way lean then you will end up seizing your motor.
Starting from scratch on a new style motor:
-If you have not already purchased your go-ped I would reccomend buying it from Pacific Sand & Water Sports. But instead of buying a stock go-ped, buy a Superstocked Go-ped. This will cost you $549. With the stock spindle on the go-ped you should be able to go 25mph+ and have very good acceleration.
-As long getting the PSWS superstock I would highly reccomend you go for the stage 2 porting. Its $40 extra after you have gotten the superstock and with it your ped should go about 30mph with the stock spindle.
-Even though its $70 I would also get the PSWS long drive spindle with the 3rd bearing support. This will protect your engine from crankshaft breakage and very costly repairs. Also the PSWS spindles will not slip as much when you hit wet ground in my experience. Don't go for higher than a .680 size though because it will be harder to pop wheelies.
-If your ped still isn't fast enough after this then the next step would be a pipe. If you don't mind noise then go for an engine trix pipe, because its just the best pipe out there. With that pipe and a .680 spindle size you should be able to pop wheelies without even trying and reach a top speed of about 35mph. If your worried about noise then get the silencer from PSWS for $42. It mounts right on the centerbleed.
-After the pipe your ped should be fast enough and it will have cost you some serious money. But if you want more top speed then go for a bigger spindle size. If you want to make your ped truly race worthy then get a Pro-mod carb from PSWS, not an HP carb though because thats really just a waste of money if you already have a superstocked go-ped . Then you will be able to run alcohol in your ped and be able to push more gas through your engine. When you run alcohol its much faster than gas but you get only half as much MPG and its highly reccomended you purge the alcohol from your motor when your done so it doesn't corode it.
-After that theres not a whole lot you can do. You can go for a stroker crank from engine trix or maybe a nitrous oxide setup if you don't mind taking the chance that your motor might blow up.
Billet Goodies
-After you have a fast ped and you just want to look good I'd go for a billet deck. Silver is my favorite color. The MRI pro-slot deck is my favorite style. I also like the inferno deck and the ADA decks.
-A deck is $100 and for that you could have your frame and fork powdercoated any color you want. You just have to find a local place to do it for you. Or get a chrome frame and fork for $145. The chrome frame is really nice and shiny and the silver deck looks great with it.
-There are also many other billet accesories. One I like is the air duct that replaces the pull start. I also like the billet wheels and Sidewalk Surfer has them for $140 a pair with the tire mounted on. This is the best price you'll find. The MRI billet grips are nice too. The silver billet fan cover makes your motor look better than new. But the first billet thing you should get is definitely the deck.
If you have an old style motor call up PSWS to get tips and help on modifying it. I don't have any experience with them. I have never riden one. But I do know the billet head kit along with the engine trix pipe is a good way to go.
